I seem to be experiencing a fairly typical (for me) but nasty allergic reaction after my flu shot, including aching joints and sore, sensitive skin, itching, stuffed head, etc. Someone told me that one of the preservatives in the flu vaccine this year might cause an allergic reaction in people who can’t where nail polish at all, and that would definitely include me. Has anyone else heard this, or can anyone provide more info?

There is a suggestion propogated by some ‘homepathic’ sources that the flu vaccine contains acetone or uses acetone to kill the virus.
I can’t find any serious, reputable reference to support this.
A pharmacist may be able to help.
Do you know what you are allergic to in the nail polish? My friend is very allergic to formaldehide (found in nailpolish). But I really doubt they would put that in a flu vaccine!
My guess is, what you’re experiencing is not an allergic reaction, but rather an immune response to the dead flu virus which was injected into your arm. Thats why you get vaccinated, so you body can react to a virus that will “look” the same to the body, but will be harmless, this way when you actually are exposed to the flu, you will have all the necesary antibodies to fight it!
Hope this helps!
