The answer to both questions is simple. People posted the dates and info to both subject areas so that there will be accurate sources of reference in the future, seeing as how a lot of people are interested on these subjects

Wikipedia provides for uses to add information at any time, and update it as necessary.

It is, in my reasoned opinion, a grave mistake to have such current events in something that purports to be an “encyclopedia” — especially one that anyone can edit.

Notice in the “treatment” section of the swine flu article, there are actually no post-symptomatic treatments discussed. This is because Wikipedia is a failure as a medical reference. God help those who seek its counsel when fallen ill.

Because swine flu is notable enough to merit an article on Wikipedia.

Yes, it is a bit early for the history books, but due to the fact that a LOT of people already know about the Swine flu epidemic in Mexico, it has gained enough notability from being reported on such reliable sources as CNN, ABC, CBS, and a ton of different newspapers and websites. Therefore, yes, the event has enough notability to warrant a page on Wikipedia at this point in time because it meets the notability requirements listed on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:N

Hope this helps :)

Wiki is not about history, mate. It’s an information site to supply people with answers to many, many things (especially more ‘looked up’ things). I can bet you that at least 500,000 people have looked up the disease already. Same with the recession. If that’s the information that is needed at that moment, then Wiki is there to provide it.
