The daytime cold relief formula, Dayquil, offered by Vicks, the makers of its nighttime counterpart, Nyquil, does little to relieve your symptoms of cold or flu.
Vicks has always been a trusted brand in my household so I was surprised and disappointed to find Dayquil to be an inferior product.
If the only treatments available to me were chicken soup or Dayquil, I would have to choose the soup. The healing properties of the soup that Grandma told you about are more potent than what you get from Dayquil.
I know that different products work differently for different people. I have seen the other reviews that tout Dayquil as a good product that worked for them. However, I do not personally know anyone who has said Dayquil helped them. Everyone I have asked has told me they did not have good results, found Dayquil to be inferior, and they had to buy a different product.
If you get a cold or flu, and Vicks is your brand of choice, you had better hope you can get all the relief you need at night using their nighttime products or give up and look for a different brand.
Another reason to choose a different product is danger of over-dose. You are sick. You are miserable. You take Dayquil and find no relief. Are you tempted to take an extra dose to relive your symptoms? Don’t do it. The warnings are clear. Take only the prescribed amount to avoid over-dose. Acetaminophen, one of the active ingredients in Dayquil, has been known to cause liver damage when not taken properly.
Maybe you could have that chicken soup and a cup of hot ginger tea. You will at least get as much relief as you can from Dayquil and build your immune system in the process.
I like to stick with names I feel I can trust. So, I hope Vicks will either change this formula or come up with a new daytime product that will work for me and my family.
When it comes to cold and flu treatments, Vicks has missed the mark with their daytime product, Dayquil.
