The secret behind fighting against common cold lies in our daily food stuffs. Sore throat, runny nose, cough watery eyes, congestion , sneezing and all other cold symptoms can be waved a good bye with certain foods. Avoiding all cold food stuffs and intake of hot foods, provides an easy relief from cold and flu.
Foods that can help fight a cold:
1. Chicken soup: You Grand mother’s home remedy for common cold is thought to be effective even today. It can decrease the mucus production, inflammation. It can loosen up the secretions causing faster elimination of common cold viruses.
2. Other soups: Ordinary green peas soup or carrot soup with herbs like pepper,

and aniseed can help fight cold. Mulligatawny Soup, an Anglo – Indian soup with vegetable / meat broth, tamarind and curry powder is an effective remedy for common cold.
3.Fruits, vegetables and fruit juices: Citrus fruits like orange and lemon is highly effective to fight common cold. Citrus fruits are not the only foods effective against cold. Strawberries, pine apple, Bell peppers and even apples are said to be effective.
4. Yogurt: It strengthens the immune system. Helps to flush away the cold virus effectively.
Even the body friendly bacteria can fight against cold boosting the immune mechanism of the body.
5.Ginger tea: Ginger tea is another ideal remedy for colds. Add ginger into boiling water along with tea leaves or tea dust. Cover the saucepan and allow it to let boil for 5 min.
The hot tea has to be served hot.

Medicinal coffee with herbs: Brewing the water for coffee in a saucepan with tulsi leaves, crushed pepper balls and slices of dried ginger before adding coffee powder can make an ideal cup of herbal coffee. Some may claim coffee to be dehydrating, but additional fluid supplements with half cup of medicinal coffee would be the best way to get rid of cold.
7. Honey: Honey taken before bedtime can ease coughing. Added to it, honey and lemon is considered a cough suppressant. Honey and pepper mixture swallowed is an ideal way to fight cold, according to Ayurveda.
Normal foods can help you fight a cold better if taken upon seeing the first signs of cold. Taking plenty of warm water can provide better relief from cold. Use of body warming herbs could balance the heat with the cold, according to Ayurveda and other traditional medicines. Avoiding cold or chilled food stuff and intake of warm food stuff may provide ab easy relief from cold.
